![]() This is something that the modern producer cannot work without, because more and more people are moving from the classical "hands-on" mixing and creating music, to a more digital approach - or completely working in their Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) on their computers. This is something that is virtually recreated to achieve certain technology that is used in most music production or mixing studios. The acronym VST stands for "Virtual Studio Technology" and practically the term explains itself. Not quite enough to quit S1 (the occasional crashfest has made me consider it, though) but enough where I have to think more about how to architect the track to distribute resources.Īdmittedly, my aging computer (9900K w/64GB DDR3) makes resource management more and more of an issue regardless of the DAW.Best VST Plugins for Music Production in 2022 I remember switching to S1 and working the same way with the same plugins typically resulted in needing to scale back just a little vs Tracktion Waveform. With something like 1ms more latency, a synth that's taking my S1 CPU use from 25% to 100% can stay under 30% use with Audiogridder. Most DAWs could benefit from better optimization, made very clear very quickly by using Audiogridder (both server and client on the same computer). There are a lot of different user groups with different objectives, but most.yes.Ĭlick to expand. The issue with Studio One is that, without trying to figure out and adapt to how it might distribute computing among cores, normal human behavior of adding plugins where you want them results in running out of resources a little more quickly in S1 than at least in some other DAWs. I'm thinking many will see C13 as an improvement and like it! Not everyone. I'm not a computer guy, and for me that's a distraction I don't want. Or maybe it's because most PCs were built by PC builders who know audio. Performance: I have maybe gotten lucky with Cubase since the 90s. When I press a Metagrid button for a simple Key Command, Metagird may take me to another scene to arrive at multiple buttons, that were based upon the original KC button, for further execution depending upon my objectives. Again, StreamDeck, as nice as it is for lots of purposes is not a substitute. It's a never-ending evolutionary progression based on your objectives that may change over time. That's why I'm a fan-boy of Metagrid where you got custom buttons organized where you want them. Then, more PLEs, LEs, and Workspaces often combined into Macros just added to the QWERTY problem. Work-arounds and workflow: up to 5 years ago I had this massive cheat sheet of a hundred Cubase Key Commands not to mention dozens of Key Modifiers. As shown earlier, we don't even open a hardware synth the same way! You use S1 external instruments, and I have hardware midi system of 32 in and outs. However someone else probably works completely different. Logical Editor, Project Logical Editor, Macros, Workspaces and 4 Mix Consoles linked/unlinked plus in the project studio, 3 LG Ultra Wides and a 4th display is my Cubase advantage. However not with efficient workflow as in Cubase. All other DAWs, Ive just seen screenshots and read lots of opinions.įor myself, most stuff is around 100-300 tracks in the pop genre. I have only used PT and Cubase for years. If the roadblocks are show stoppers without solutions, then look at the competition. If you run into roadblocks, create work-arounds. Greg Ondo doesn't even know everything about Cubase, yet it's amazing how and what he does on the spot. You were forced to do the most with what you got. There were limitations everywhere. And good musicians before they got lazy relying on digital punch-in. They don't even know about that funny plastic box with sliders.the 480L. Automation was asking for 3 other pairs of hands and practicing in advance. Today there are engineers who never touched a real mix console. ![]() ![]() ![]() Unfortunately, its often about perspective. Click to expand.Thats right! We are spoiled. ![]()
